Ovi scored 2 powerplay goals in 12 seconds in the second period versus the Calgary Flames on October 30th, 2010. His 6th and 7th goals of the season cued the comeback and the Caps went on to win the game 7 - 2.
Just random thoughts about the game I love...and the players who play it. I am huge Alexander Ovechkin fan, and I love the Washington Capitals. I'm a 'chick', but if you've come here to read about who I think is hot, you've come to the wrong place... Hockey is a regular part of my day. As Ovi says, "what I can say...it is what it is".

About Me
- queen of hockey
- I live in Calgary, Alberta CANADA...home of the NHL's Flames and the WHL's Hitmen. I love watching hockey. My favorite player is Alexander Ovechkin, followed closely by Nicklas Bäckström. Then there's my goalies Henrik Lundqvist, and Carey Price. I also like watching the dynamic duo of Toews and Kane. I like watching the Caps, Rangers, Habs, Hawks, and Canucks. But I'll watch anyone play anyone, at any time. I love the game that much. In my limited spare time, I am learning Swedish. I've actually been taking lessons since the NHL lockout in 2004. So, it stands to reason that I pay extra close attention to Swedish players/prospects. Pretty much the only time I'm not thinking hockey is when I'm sleeping, or when I'm at my boxing club.

Flames/Habs Heritage Classic - Feb 20 2010
When the Calgary Flames host the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL's (and Habs) second Heritage Classic on February 20th, I will be watching the game from the comfort of my own home...maybe.
Firstly, sitting outside all day in mid February does not appeal to me. Calgary winters are mild compared to Saskatchewan (where I'm from originally), or even Edmonton for that matter. But I used to stand out at the train station here in Calgary and even after 5 minutes it wears thin. Plus I don't drink alcohol, which is how most of the people survive those outdoor games I think. And everyone is so far away from the ice that it almost doesn't even seem worthwhile. There are two places I sit when watching live NHL hockey...either in the lower bowl no higher than 6 rows up, or in the pressbox. (the pressbox hasn't happened since the 2009 season tho')...so sitting that high up in the stands for me is out of the question.
Secondly, the idea of regular season outdoor games, worth 4 points, does not appeal to me. The game played outside is far different than the NHL area. The ice is awful, the puck stops flat sometimes, and the players are exposed to conditions that their indoor conditioned NHL arena lungs are not used to. The entire game is different.
The Habs and Flames are notorious for barely making it in to the playoffs. The potential exists for either (or both) teams not make it in by two points. That two points could boil down to losing the Heritage Classic...on bad outdoor ice...
I think maybe the NHL should consider replacing the All Star weekend with outdoor games. They could have 15 outdoor games on the same weekend!! And make a brazillion dollars!! Oh, wait a second...even in the dead of winter, there's no ice in Florida...or California...or Texas...or Tennessee...or South Carolina...or even Vancouver...That means all of the teams without snow will not be able to host such an event. Hmmm...
And as far as I know, there NHL employs only one team of outdoor ice guys; I guess they don't have the resources. Okay, not the best thought-out idea I've ever had.
But I would still prefer the outdoor games to be exhibition games worth no points.
The Pens are hosting my Caps in the Winter Classic on January 1st. I wouldn't go to the game either even if it were an all expenses paid trip. I just don't support that kind of hockey.

Who does that???
So, I'm sitting here wondering WTF...(for lack of a better expression...read on and you'll see why...)
Washingon Post Caps beat writer Tarik El Bashir, is leaving his job! He's the dude that travels with the team and is responsible for informing Caps fans of behind the scenes stuff on our guys. He's got a blog on washingtonpost.com and he's one of the guys I rely on day in and day out to give me the most up-to-date tidbit on my team. He's still going to be with the Post in other areas (like the Hoyas, nascar, boxing, mma, and a few other things). But he's leaving the most primo job in all of sports! I mean, to have the mic in front of Ov day in and day out! To get paid to watch Caps hockey. I don't get it.
Here's what else I don't get...the replacement. Why couldn't it have been me??
I didn't even know there was an opening!

Flames Prospect Camp - July 2010
I am not a Flames fan...but, it seems normal to me to go to watch the Flames draft picks/prospects at the Saddledome. Being that it is the end of July, and my brother isn't playing summer hockey, I am really missing hockey. So I took a couple of 'mental health' hours off of work and headed down to the 'Dome to watch the young guys.
My favorite player to watch was/is Mikael Bäcklund (pictured left), the Flames first round draft pick (24th o/a) in 2007. I've been patiently waiting for the last two seasons for him to be an NHL regular, and it looks like 2010 - 11 might be the year! As he was working on his power skating drills with Barry Karn and the rest of the prospects, I couldn't help but think that it was only May 2009 (just over a year ago!!) that I was watching him with the Kelowna Rockets in the Ed Chynoweth Cup vs my hometown Hitmen in the WHL final. What a year it's been for him!
I know I'll be at Flames main camp in about six weeks. A couple of the boys from this camp will be invited back.

Summertime Blues
I just spent the last hour watching Caps youtube videos. BIG mistake. Now I miss my boys more than I did 61 minutes ago.
