I love this stuff....
Here's Fleury's reponse six days later when the Pens hammered my Habs 5 - 2.
As a fan, I don't see anything wrong with these antics...young guys, both really good goaltenders...I love it!!
Just random thoughts about the game I love...and the players who play it. I am huge Alexander Ovechkin fan, and I love the Washington Capitals. I'm a 'chick', but if you've come here to read about who I think is hot, you've come to the wrong place... Hockey is a regular part of my day. As Ovi says, "what I can say...it is what it is".

About Me
- queen of hockey
- I live in Calgary, Alberta CANADA...home of the NHL's Flames and the WHL's Hitmen. I love watching hockey. My favorite player is Alexander Ovechkin, followed closely by Nicklas Bäckström. Then there's my goalies Henrik Lundqvist, and Carey Price. I also like watching the dynamic duo of Toews and Kane. I like watching the Caps, Rangers, Habs, Hawks, and Canucks. But I'll watch anyone play anyone, at any time. I love the game that much. In my limited spare time, I am learning Swedish. I've actually been taking lessons since the NHL lockout in 2004. So, it stands to reason that I pay extra close attention to Swedish players/prospects. Pretty much the only time I'm not thinking hockey is when I'm sleeping, or when I'm at my boxing club.

A Swedish Moment
I was watching the Vancouver Canucks at New York Rangers game the other night. My roommate/brother is a die-hard Canucks fan, and I love Henrik Lundqvist. No money was on the line, as I do not bet on my favorite players/teams. I always pay extra attention to Swedes, and picked up on this right away. I thought this was priceless.
The Rangers ended up winning this game 1 - 0 on Henke's 6th shutout of the season, which ties him for 3rd all time for the Rangers with 30.

Ovi n Sidney Crosby in Vanity Fair
So, Johnny Depp is on the cover of the January 2011 issue of Vanity Fair. Buried in the pages of the magazine is an amazing black and white photo of my boy Alex Ovechkin and Canadian Golden Boy Sidney Crosby. I wondered if they were actually together, and here is the evidence I was looking for.

Winter Classic - Caps at Pens

The NHLs Winter Classic, played this year at Heintz Field (or Stadium or whatever) in Pittsburgh was my worst nightmare come true. The game was scheduled to start at 1:00 in the afternoon, but with rain in the forecast, the puck eventually dropped at about 8:00 that night. The ice was awful, and the game was slow. I still liked watching it, being the hockey nut I am. But it got me to thinking that it's pretty much like that every time the NHL holds one of their outdoor games...bad ice and slow play. On the plus side, the game was worth 2 points and I'm happy that my team came away with the W (to overuse a cliche). On the minus side, the game was worth two points. I've said it before and I'll say it again -- points should not be on the line when these outdoor games are played.
As a sidenote, I loved those retro uni's sported by the Caps. I need one of those jerseys.

Brooksie -- SI Sportsman of the Year Nominee

Nominations just came out for Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year. Among them, Brooks Laich, a small town Saskatchewan boy with a heart of gold. Those of us who follow the Caps know that Brooksie is the less-flamboyant leader of the team. He is sought after by the media for his 'heart on his sleeve' sincerity, always trusted for an honest opinion. I'm sure he was likely considered by more than a few guys alongside Alexander Ovechkin when the team voted on their new Captain after the departure of Chris Clark in January last season.
I personally love the guy. I consider myself fortunate that I was able to watch him in junior for a season in Moose Jaw (Saskatchewan) with the Warriors of the Western Hockey League. A late round pick of the Ottawa Senators in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft (6th round, 193rd overall), Laich was considered by many to be a longshot to make the NHL. The Capitals tended to draw a lot from the Western Hockey League at the time (drafting the likes of Kris Beech, Brian Sutherby, Matt Pettinger, Jakob Cutta and Nathan Paetsch in a three year span), so I'm sure the Western scouts were keen on him. And when the opportunity presented itself in a trade for Peter Bondra, the Caps took it. I'm sure that they're thankful for that decision every single hockey day. Brooks Laich - a stand-up guy, who represents everything that is good about our game.
Here is a story on his nomination by SI great Michael Farber...

Ovi douses Flames -- Oct 30/10
Ovi scored 2 powerplay goals in 12 seconds in the second period versus the Calgary Flames on October 30th, 2010. His 6th and 7th goals of the season cued the comeback and the Caps went on to win the game 7 - 2.
